Location of Sirohi:
The District of Sirohi is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 5179 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Udaipur on the East, District Pali on the Northeast, District Jalore on the West, District Banaskantha of Gujarat State on the South. The City of Sirohi is the headquarter of this District.
The City of Sirohi stands on the Western Slope of the Siranwa Hills from which it derives its name. It was founded by Sehastramal, the son of Rao Sobha Ji (a descendant of the Deora clan of Chauhans). He laid the foundation stone of the Sirohi fort in the year 1425 A.D. on the top the present town of Sirohi and made it his Capital which lies on the Western Slope of the Siranwa hills, later all the area under Deoras came to be known as Sirohi.
Mount Abu, the highest peak in the Aravalli Ranges is located in Sirohi district. Mount Abu is 29 Km from Aburoad Railway Station. This mountain forms a distinct rocky plateau 22 km long and 9 km wide. The highest peak on the mountain is Guru Shikhar, at 1722 meters above sea level. It is referred to as ‘an oasis in the desert’, as its heights are home to rivers, lakes, waterfalls and evergreen forests. The ancient name of Mount Abu is ‘Arbudaanchal’. It is the only hill station in the State of Rajasthan.
The District of Sirohi has been divided into 5 Tehsils and 3 Sub-Tehsils –
Tehsils – Sirohi, Sheoganj, Pindwara, Aburoad, Reodar
Sub-Tehsils – Bhavari, Kalandri, Mandar
Climate of Sirohi:
The Climate of this District is quite dry with four main Seasons –
- Summer – From March to June when maximum temperature rises to 47oC, while average temperature remains around 30oC. The Month of June is the hottest one.
- Monsoon – From July to Mid-September with average annual rainfall of 665 mm, 62% humidity and temperature of 25oC.
- Post Monsoon – From Mid-September to October end when average temperature remains around 23oC.
- Winters – From November to February when minimum temperature falls to around 1oC, while average Day temperature remains around 18oC. The Month of January is the coldest one.
