Location of Nagaur:

The District of Nagaur is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 17718 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Churu on the North, District Sikar on the Northeast, District Jaipur on the East, District Ajmer on the South and Southeast, District Pali on the South, District Jodhpur on the West and Southwest and District Bikaner on the Northwest. The City of Nagaur is the headquarter of this District.

The District of Nagaur finds mention in the Mahabharata. The kingdom of ‘Ahichhatrapur’ which Arjun is said to have conquered and subsequently offered to his Guru Dronacharya, was perhaps some of the area of the Nagaur district. It was founded by Naga Kshatriyas in the 4th Century B.C. It is the birth place of Meera and Abul Fazal. It has witnessed the valour of Great Rao Amar Singh Rathor who challenged the mighty Mughal empire. The large old Nagaur Fort has many glorious tales of bravery of the erstwhile rulers of the States.

This District has been divided into 10 Tehsils and 7 Sub-Tehsils –

Tehsils – Nagaur, Jayal, Merta, Degana, Ladnun, Nawa, Makarana, Parbatsar, Deedwana, Khinvsar

Sub-Tehsils – Kuchaman, Deh, Maulasar, Sanju, Riyan, Peelwa, Bherunda


Climate of Nagaur:

This District is a part of the Great Indian Desert or Thar Desert and its geographical area has hills, Sand mounds and plains. It has extremely dry Climate with very large variations in temperature. It experiences four main Seasons –

  • Summer – From March to June when maximum temperature rises to 47oC, while average temperature remains around 40oC. The Sand storms are common during this period.
  • Monsoon – From July to Mid-September with average annual rainfall of 362 mm, 52% humidity and average temperature around 35oC.
  • Post Monsoon – From Mid-September to Mid-November when average temperature remains around 30oC.
  • Winters – From Mid-November to February end when minimum temperature falls to around 0oC, while average Day temperature remains around 23oC. The Month of January is the coldest.
