Location of Banswara:
The District of Banswara is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 5037 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Chittorgarh on the North and Northeast, District Udaipur on the North, District Ratlam of Madhya Pradesh State on the East, District Dungarpur on the West, District Jhabua of Madhya Pradesh State on the South and District Panchmahal of Gujarat State on the Southwest. The City of Banswara is the headquarter of this District.
This district was earlier a princely state ruled by the Maharavals. It is said that a Bhil ruler named Bansia ruled over it and Banswara was named after his name. Bansia was defeated and killed by Jagmal Singh who became the first Maharaval of the princely state. It is also named so because of the Bamboos (Bans) which were found in abundance in the forests. The City of Banswara is also known as ‘The City of Hundred Islands’ as the river Mahi which flows through the region and separates Banswara and Dungarpur Districts, has a number of islands inside.
This District has been divided into 5 Tehsils:
Tehsils – Banswara, Garhi, Ghatol, Kushalgarh, Bagidora

Climate of Banswara:
This District experiences four main seasons:
- Summer – From April to June when maximum temperature rises to 45oC, while average temperature remains around 34oC. The Month of June is the hottest one.
- Monsoon – From July to Mid-September with average annual rainfall of around 825.90 mm and temperature around 30oC.
- Post Monsoon – From Mid-September to October end with average temperature around 26oC.
- Winters – From November to March when lowest temperature falls to around 8oC and average Day temperature remains around 20oC. The Month of January is the coldest one.
