Location of Kota:

The District of Kota is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 5217 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by Districts Bundi and Tonk on the Northwest, District Sawai Madhopur on the North, District Baran on the East and Southeast, District Jhalawar on the South, District Chittorgarh on the Southwest and State of Madhya Pradesh on the East. The City of Kota is the headquarter of this District.

The foundation of Kota was laid 800 Years ago by Kotya Bhil warrior, who built a small fortification at Akelgarh and constructed a mud wall around it all the way to Retwali. In the Year 1631, the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan gave the territory of Kota to Rao Madho Singh, the second son of Rao Ratan Singh, the ruler of Bundi. Rao Madho Singh strengthened both the fortification and the wall. Today Kota has emerged as an important industrial centre and is called the industrial Capital of the State of Rajasthan.

This District has been divided into 5 Tehsils and 3 Sub-Tehsils –

Tehsils – Ladpura, Digod, Pipalda, Sangod, Ramganjmandi

Sub-Tehsils – Mandana, Kanwas, Chechat


Climate of Kota:

This District has tropical Climate with very hot Summers and dry Winters. It experiences four main Seasons –

  • Summer – From April to Mid-July when maximum temperature rises to 44oC, while average temperature remains around 35oC.
  • Monsoon – From Mid-July to Mid-September with average annual rainfall of 840 mm and temperature around 30oC.
  • Post Monsoon – From Mid-September to October when temperature remains around 28oC.
  • Winters – From November to March when minimum temperature falls to 6oC, while average Day temperature remains around 25oC.
