Location of Churu:
The District of Churu is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 16830 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by Districts Hanumangarh and Sri Ganganagar on the North, District Bikaner on the West, District Nagaur on the South, District Sikar on the Southeast, District Jhunjhunu on the Southeast and District Hissar of Haryana State on the East. The City of Churu is the headquarter of this District.
The Churu City is a place of historic importance. This City is said to have been founded by a Jat named Chuhru in the Year 1620 A.D. Churu is situated in the middle of the shifting golden Sand dunes like an Oasis and opens the gate to the Great Indian Desert or Thar Desert. It is known as ‘The Gateway of Thar Desert’. This District has a proud history when its people fired silver cannon balls to defend its honour and freedom.
This District has been divided into 6 Tehsils, 1 additional Tehsil and 2 Sub-Tehsils –
Tehsils – Churu, Sujangarh, Ratangarh, Rajgarh, Taranagar, Sardarshahar
Additional Tehsil – Bidasar
Sub-Tehsils – Bhanipura, Sidhmukh
Climate of Churu:
This District being a part of the Thar Desert has dry climate with large variations in temperature. It has freezing temperatures in Winters but the region does not have snowfall and it becomes extremely hot in Summers. It experiences three main Seasons –
- Summer – From March to June when maximum temperature rises to above 50oC to 52oC, while the average temperature remains around 40oC. The Nights are slightly cooler as compared to Days.
- Monsoon – From July to September when temperature remains around 40oC with very less rainfall.
- Winters – From October to February when minimum temperature falls below 0oC to -6oC and average Day temperature remains around 25oC.
