Location of Jhalawar:
The District of Jhalawar is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 6928 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Kota on the North, District Baran on the Northeast and by State Madhya Pradesh on all other sides. The City of Jhalawar is the headquarter of this District.
The city of Jhalawar was founded in 1791 A.D. by Jhala Zalim Singh I, who was the then Dewan of Kota state. At that time, the Maratha invaders used to pass through this place from Malwa towards Kota to attack and capture Hadoti States. So he built this township as a military Cantonment to stop the invaders and it was then known as ‘Chhaoni Umedpura’.
The British separated it from Kota State and established it as a Princely State in 1838 A.D. It has got its name from Jhalas, the Jhala clan of Rajputs, who were the rulers of Jhalawar. It is known for thick forests and very rich flora and fauna.
This District has been divided into 7 Tehsils –
Tehsils – Aklera, Gangdhar, Jhalara Patan, Khanpur, Manohar Thana, Pachpahar, Pirawa
Climate of Jhalawar:
This District has rocky but water laden landscape with hot dry Summers and cold Winters. It experiences three main Seasons –
- Summers – From April to June when maximum temperature rises to 47oC, while average temperature remains around 35oC.
- Monsoon – From July to September with average annual rainfall of 943 mm and temperature around 30oC. This District receives highest rainfall in Rajasthan State.
- Winters – From October to March when minimum temperature falls to around 9oC, while average Day temperature remains around 25oC.
