Location of Ajmer:

The District of Ajmer is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 8481 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Nagaur in Northwest, District Pali in the West, District Bhilwara in the South, District Jaipur in the Northeast and District Tonk in the Southeast. The city of Ajmer is the headquarter of this District.

The City of Ajmer which gives its name to the District was founded in the 7th Century A.D. by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan of Chauhan dynasty. It continued to be ruled by Chauhan dynasty rulers until 1192. Its last ruler Prithvi Raj Chauhan was defeated by Muhammad Ghori, the Sultan of Ghazni in the second battle of Tarain (near Thanesar, 150 Km North of Delhi in Haryana State) in the Year 1192. Later on it was conquered by Mughal Emperor Akbar in the Year 1559 and the Marathas captured it in the Year 1770. In the Year 1818, the British purchased it from the Marathas and continued to rule over it until India’s independence in 1947.

Climate of Ajmer:

  • Summer – From April to July when maximum temperature rises to 45oC, while average temperature remains around 34oC. The Month of June is the hottest one.
  • Monsoon – From August to Mid-September with average annual rainfall of 527.30 mm and temperature around 29oC.
  • Post Monsoon – From Mid-September to October end with temperature around 24oC.
  • Winters – From November to March when minimum temperature falls to around 4oC and average Day temperature remains around 12oC. The Month of January is the coldest one.
