Location of Karauli:
The District of Karauli is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 5070 Sq. Km in area. It is surrounded by District Dausa on the Northwest, District Sawai Madhopur on the West and Southwest, District Dholpur on the East, District Bharatpur on the North and Northeast, River Chambal on the Southeast which separates it from District Morena of Madhya Pradesh State. The City of Karauli is the headquarter of this District.
The City of Karauli was established in 1348 by Raja Arjunpal of Yadav clan. Earlier it was known by the name of ‘Kalyanpura’. It was also known as ‘Bhadravati’ for it’s being situated on the bank of River Bhadravati. This District was created by the State Government of Rajasthan on 1 March, 1997 by separating five Tehsils from District Sawai Madhopur. The Official Notification for the creation of the District was issued on 15 July, 1997 and the District was inaugurated on 19 July, 1997 by the then Chief-Minister of Rajasthan State.
This District has been divided into 6 Tehsils –
Tehsils – Karauli, Sapotra, Nadauti, Hindaun, Mandrayal, Todabhim
Climate of Karauli:
This District has been blessed with Aravali ranges of mountains, numerous Rivers and awesome natural beauty. The Climate of this District is mainly dry with four main Seasons –
- Summer – From April to Mid-July when maximum temperature rises to 49oC, while average temperature remains around 37oC.
- Monsoon – From Mid-July to August end with average annual rainfall of 689.2 mm and temperature around 32oC.
- Post Monsoon – From September to October end when average temperature remains around 28oC.
- Winters – From November to March when minimum temperature falls to around 2oC, while average Day temperature remains around 20oC. The Month of January is the coldest one.
