Location of Baran:

The District of Baran is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 6992 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Kota on the West and Northwest, District Jhalawar on the South and Southwest and Districts Guna, Shoepur and Shivpuri of Gujarat State on rest of all sides. The City of Baran is the headquarter of this District.

Earlier this District was a part of District Kota of Rajasthan. It was carved out as a separate District on 10th April, 1991. This District receives second highest rainfall in the State after District Banswara. Since ‘Baran’ in Urdu stands for ‘Rain’, hence the name of the District.

This District has been divided into 8 Tehsils and 1 Sub-Tehsil –

Tehsils – Baran, Anta, Atru, Mangrol, Chhabra, Chhipabarod, Kishanganj, Shahabad

Sub-Tehsil – Kelwara

Climate of Baran:

This District has mainly dry climate and it experiences four main Seasons:

• Summer – From March to June when maximum temperature rises to 45^oC.
• Monsoon – From July to September with average annual rainfall of 895.2 mm and temperature dropping down to around 34^oC.
• Post Monsoon – From October to Mid-November with temperature of 27^oC.
• Winters – From Mid-November to February when average Day temperature remains around 22^oC and minimum temperature falls to around 9^oC.
