Location of Pali:

The District of Pali is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 12387 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Jodhpur on the Northwest, District Barmer on the West, District Jalore on the West, District Sirohi on the Southwest, District Udaipur on the South, District Rajsamand on the Southeast and East, District Ajmer on the Northeast and District Nagaur on the North. The City of Pali is the headquarter of this District.

It is believed that District Pali existed since Pre-historic age. In the Vedic age, Maharshi Javali stayed in this area for meditation and compilation of Vedas. The Pandavas in the Mahabharata age also have made this area (near Bali) their resting place during the exile.

The area was ruled by King Kanishka in 120 A.D., by the Chalukya King Harshavardhana in the 7th Century A.D. After the Arab invasions of India, this area was captured by Rajput rulers. After the defeat of Prithvi Raj Chauhan in the second battle of Tarain, the Rajput power of the area was disintegrated and Mewar and Godwad area of Pali came under Maharana Kumbha, the ruler of Mewar. But Pali city which was ruled by Brahmin rulers with the help of neighbouring Rajput rulers, remained peaceful. In the 17th Century, it came under the rule of Rathores of Marwar State. Today it has emerged as an important Industrial City of Rajasthan.

Climate of Pali:

The Climate of this District is mainly dry with three main Seasons –

  • Summer – From April to June when maximum temperature rises to 46oC to 47oC, while average temperature remains around 40oC. The Month of June is the hottest one.
  • Monsoon – From July to October with average annual rainfall of 300 mm and temperature around 30oC.
  • Winters – From November to March when minimum temperature falls to around 4oC to 5oC, while average Day temperature remains around 20oC. The Month of January is the coldest one.
