Location of Jhunjhunu:
The District of Jhunjhunu is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 5929 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Sikar on the South, Southwest and Southeast, District Churu on the Northwest and North and State Haryana on the East and Northeast. The City of Jhunjhunu is the headquarter of this District.
The Jhunjhunu city is a part of the erstwhile Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. The Shekhawati region was named after Rao-Shekhawati, who ruled over a huge area for several years in the 14th century. It is not known when the City of Jhunjhunu was founded and by whom. It is said that it was occupied by the rulers of Chauhan dynasty in 988 A.D. In the year 1450 A.D. Mohammed Khan and his son Samas khan defeated the Chauhans and conquered Jhunjhunu. Then in 1742 A.D. it was captured by the Rajput ruler – Sardul Singh. This City is a prosperous and fast developing City and a major centre of commercial activities.
This District has been divided into Tehsils and Sub-Tehsils –
Tehsils – Khetri, Chiwara, Jhunjhunu, Nawalgarh, Buhana, Udaipurwati
Sub-Tehsils – Malsisar, Surajgarh
Climate of Jhunjhunu:
The most part of the District is a semi-desert with Southeastern part having Aravali ranges of mountains and lush green valleys. The Climate of this District is Semi arid with four main Seasons –
- Summer – From April to June when maximum temperature rises to 44oC, while average temperature remains around 35oC.
- Monsoon – From July to Mid-September with average annual rainfall of 440 mm and temperature around 32oC.
- Post Monsoon – From Mid-September to October end with temperature around 28oC.
- Winters – From November to March when minimum temperature falls to around 5oC, while average Day temperature remains around 20oC. The Month of January is the coldest.
