Location of Dundlod Fort:

This Fort is located at a distance of 32 Km from Jhunjhunu City in town Dundlod, District Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan.

History of Dundlod Fort:

It was built in 1750 A.D. by Thakur Keshri Singh, the 5th son of Thakur Sardul Singh. Major additions were made in the early 19th Century A.D. by his descendant Thakur Sheo Singh.

Architecture of the Fort:

Its design is a fine blend of the Rajput and the Mughal School of art and architecture. Its rampart wall is surrounded by a moat which used to be filled with water as first line of defence against the approaching enemy. Its huge main gate known as Suraj Pole leads to the Bichla Darwaza (the central gate) which again leads to the third gate known as Uttar Pole. The Uttar Pole opens into the main courtyard of the Fort. Here the steps lead to the Diwan Khana built majestically in the Mughal style of architecture. It is furnished with Louis The XIV furniture, has wall hangings of arrows and shields and is adorned with motifs of flowers and foliage, mythological paintings and the portraits of the erstwhile royal family. It also has a magnificent library having a very rich collection of rare books on Indian History. Above this lies the Duchhatta, from where the royal ladies used to watch the court ceremonies. Each room of the Fort has terraces and chowks in front of it.

Visiting Hours in the Fort:

It has now been converted into a Heritage Hotel.
