The District of Barmer is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 28387 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Jaisalmer on the North, District Jodhpur on the North and Northeast, District Pali on the East, District Jalore on the South, Southeast and East and Pakistan on the West. The City of Barmer is the headquarter of this District.
This District is a part of the Great Indian Desert or Thar Desert of Rajasthan. Its original name was Bahadmer meaning the ‘Hill Fort of Bahada’. This District was founded by Bahada Rao or Bar Rao who named it Barmer. It is famous for hand block painting, Carpets, carved wooden furniture and Sand Dunes of Thar Desert.
This District has been divided into 8 Tehsils –

Climate of Barmer:
Being a part of the Thar Desert, the climate of this District is very harsh and dry. The Summers are very hot and Winters are very cold. This District experiences three main Seasons :
- Summer – From March to June when maximum temperature rises to 46oC.
- Monsoon – From July to September with average annual rainfall of 306 mm and temperature of 33oC.
- Winter – From October to February when minimum temperature falls to around 5oC and average Day temperature remains around 18oC.
