The Punjab Engineering College is a Co-Educational, Non-Autonomous, Non-Minority, Grant-in-Aid Institution under Chandigarh Administration; Set up originally as ‘Mugalpura Engineering College’ at Lahore in the year 1921. Its name was changed to ‘Maclagan Engineering College’ in 1924. In 1931, it got affiliated to Punjab University, Lahore. After the partition of India in 1947, the College was shifted to Roorkee (India) and was renamed as ‘East Punjab College of Engineering’. In 1950, it was renamed as ‘Punjab Engineering College’ (PEC). The College shifted to its present campus in Chandigarh in 1953. In October 2003, the Govt. of India notified the PEC as a ‘Deemed to be University’ and it came to be known as Punjab Engineering College (Deemed-to-be-University).

Eligibility in Punjab Engineering College (PEC)
Passed 10+2 or Class 12th Exam or any other equivalent exam with Language, Physics & Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/ Technical Vocational subject. Obtained at least 45% marks (40% marks for SC/ST/PwD applicants) in the above subjects taken together.
Note 1 : All those candidates who have passed their qualifying exam from the Schools/Colleges located in the U.T. of Chandigarh and recognized by the Chandigarh Administration are eligible for State Quota (Chandigarh) Seats. All Other candidates who have passed their qualifying exam from elsewhere are eligible for All India Quota Seats.
Note 2 : For Seats under Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme : The candidates should have passed the qualifying exam in 1st class in 60% marks & his/her total family income from all sources should not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakh per year.
Admission Procedure in Punjab Engineering College (PEC)
The admission for State Quota Seats/ All India Quota Seats and Supernumerary Seats for Kashmiri Migrants & Under TFWS is based on the merit/ rank in the JEE (Main) Paper 1 conducted by National Testing Agency (For details visit www.nta.ac.in or https://jeemain.nta.nic.in). The On-line Counselling for admission is conducted by the Joint Admission Committee (JAC), for which the On-line Registration starts in the month of May/June every year (For details visit http://chdenggadmissions.nic.in/jaccms/public/home.aspx).
Note : The admissions of Foreign Nationals/ Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)/ Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) under Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) is based on the score in the SAT (For details visit www.dasanit.org/).

Eligibility in Punjab Engineering College (PEC)
(i) A candidate must have obtained a B.E./ B.Tech. Degree from an IIT/ AICTE approved College/ University recognized by UGC OR A candidate must have cleared/completed A & B Sections of the examination conducted by Institution of Engineers (India), Calcutta, or I.E.T.E. Graduate Examination conducted by the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, New Delhi, in the relevant branch or equivalent examinations of Professional Societies, recognized by MHRD/ UPSC/ AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institution of Engineers-India, AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers-India) and must possess at least five years research/ professional experience.
(ii) The candidate must possess the qualifying degree with 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA with 5% relaxation for SC/ST/PwD applicants.
(iii) Those who have appeared in the qualifying exam may also apply, provided they would be submitting the original degree and detailed marks certificates latest by 30th September of the academic year of admission.
(iv) An applicant for a Full Time Sponsored (Two years Duration) Seat must have a minimum of two years full time work experience, as on the last date of receipt of applications, in the sponsoring organization. A sponsored candidate is considered for admission only in that M.E. program for which he/ she has been granted permission by his/ her parent Department/ Organization. The main activities of the sponsoring organization should relate to the program in which the candidate is seeking admission.
(v) An applicant for Part Time Sponsored (Three year duration) Seat must have a minimum of two years full time work experience, as on the last date of receipt of completed application form, with minimum one year in the present organization viz. a registered firm/company/industry/educational & research institution/any Government Department or Government Autonomous Organization and is considered for admission to only that Specialization for which he/ she has been granted permission by his/ her parent Department.
(vi) The candidates sponsored by Central/State Govt. Autonomous Bodies/Public Ltd. Companies/AICTE approved Institutes, must submit the certificate of proceeding on leave from their parent organization.
(vii) If a Full time sponsored/part-time sponsored candidate leaves his/ her organization during the program of study, his/ her name will be deemed to have been removed from the Institute rolls from the date he/ she leaves that organization.

Admission Procedure in Punjab Engineering College (PEC)
All the candidates desirous of taking admission in any of the M.E. Programs are required to register On-line on Website (www.pec.ac.in) in the month of May/June every year.
For ‘All India Quota Seats’ of Regular Programs: The admission is based on the score in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted jointly by the IISc and all the IITs. The candidates with valid GATE score are required to participate in the CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan. Admissions) conducted by one of the NITs’ as authorized by the NIT Council (For details visit www.ccmt.in). The seats remaining vacant, thereafter, are filled on the basis of GATE score in the manual spot round held at the PEC University of Technology.
For ‘Full Time & Part Time Sponsored Seats’ of Regular Programs: The admission of Non-GATE candidates is based on the score in an Entrance Test conducted by the respective Departments of the PEC University of Technology.
For Self Supporting Programs: The admission of GATE & Non-GATE candidates is based on the score in an Entrance Test conducted by the respective Departments of the PEC University of Technology.
Duration
Two Academic years comprising of 4 Semesters for Full Time Programs, Three Academic years comprising of 6 Semesters for Part Time Programs.
Ph.D. Programs:
  • The Punjab Engineering College (PEC) offers Ph.D. in these Disciplines : Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering (Structural Engg., Transportation Engg., Geo-Technical Engg., Construction Technology & Management, Water Resources Engg., Remote Sensing & GIS, Environmental Engg.), Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials & Metallurgical Engineering, Production & Industrial Engineering, Industrial & Product Design, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Humanities (Finance), Geology.
Eligibility in Punjab Engineering College (PEC)
For Full-time Ph.D. Programs:
Engineering/Technology Streams : Master’s Degree in Engineering/ Technology of 2 years duration after graduation in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters). Science/ Humanities & Social Science, Management Streams : Master’s degree in Sciences/ Humanities & Social Sciences/ Management in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or 60% marks. The SC/ST/PwD applicants are given a 5% relaxation in marks or 0.5 relaxation in CGPA.
For Part-time Ph.D. Programs:
In addition to above stated requirements, the applicants must have been in continuous service with the Sponsoring Organization for at least two years at the time of submitting the Application Form for Admission & submit ‘NOC’ from the employer stating that (i) He/she is on the regular payroll of the organization. (ii) He/she is permitted to pursue studies on a part-time basis, and (iii) His/her official duties will permit sufficient time for research. Sponsorship letter should include an undertaking stating that the period of study of the candidates will be treated as ‘on duty’ with usual salary/allowances, and he/she will be relieved for the period of studies. (iv) The candidate is required to reside at the Institute for a period of not less than one semester (i.e. six months duration) in the first year of Ph.D. Program. This condition of minimum residence period is waived for candidates who are working in PEC or in Organizations/ Institutions located within a distance of 50 Km from the Institute.
Note : Only GATE qualified candidates are eligible for admission to Ph.D. programs in Mechanical Engg., Computer Science & Engg. and Materials & Metallurgical Engg. Departments.
Admission Procedure in Punjab Engineering College (PEC)
The On-line Applications for admission are made available on the PEC University of Technology’s Website (www.pec.ac.in) in the month of May/June. The candidates applying for more than one Department should submit separate print-outs of the On-line Registration Form for each Discipline. The admission to Ph.D. programs takes place once a year. However, students having National/ State/ Industry/ R&D Sponsored Scholarship such as UGC NET/ CSIR NET/ DST INSPIRE/ Vishvesveraya etc. & related Scholarships or are Sponsored Foreign Nationals can be given admission throughout the year based upon an Interview to be conducted by Departmental Research Committee (DRC) & prospective supervisors.
For Non-GATE/ Non-NET candidates, the admission is based on the score in an Entrance Test conducted by the Ph.D. Admission Committee of the respective Departments followed by an Interview. For GATE/NET qualified candidates, only Interview is conducted. The Internal faculty/staff members who are GATE/NET qualified, are eligible for admission through Interview only.
Fee Structure of Punjab Engineering College (PEC)
The Fee to be paid for different courses for the year 2016-2017 in Punjab Engineering College (PEC) is as follows:
  • The fee for B.E. course is Rs. 69,250/- for 1st semester. The Hostel Fee is Rs. 58,500/- per annum.
  • The fee for M.E. course for Regular Seats filled through CCMT is Rs. 33,250/-.
  • The fee for Part Time/ Full Time Sponsored Seats of M.E. Regular Programs is Rs. 53,250/-. The fee for Self-supporting M.E. Programs is Rs. 75,750/-.
  • The fee for Ph.D. Program is Rs. 15,000/- per annum. The One Time Fee (payable at the time of admission only) is Rs. 8,000/- & Refundable Security is Rs. 5,000/-.
