Location of Hanumangarh:
The District of Hanumangarh is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 9656.09 Sq. Km in area. It is surrounded by District Churu on the South, District Sri Ganganagar on the West, District Bikaner on the Southwest, state Punjab on the North and State Haryana on the East and Southeast. The City of Hanumangarh is the headquarter of this District.
Earlier, Hanumangarh was known as ‘Bhatner’. In the year 1805, Raja Surat Singh of Bikaner captured Bhatner after defeating Bhattis and as the day of his victory was Tuesday (known as the day of Lord ‘Hanuman’), he named Bhatner as Hanumangarh. This District was Carved out from Sri Ganganagar District on 12 July, 1994 as 31st district of Rajasthan. This District is also known as the ‘Land of an Old Civilization’. The remains found at Kalibanga (Pilibanga) in 1951 reveal that this area was a part of nearly 5000 years old Indus Valley Civilization. Besides Kalibanga, more than 100 other places are also there in the district where evidences of Indus Valley Civilization have been found.
This District has been divided into 7 Tehsils and 3 Sub-Tehsils –
Tehsils – Pilibanga, Tibi, Hanumangarh, Rawatsar, Bhadra, Sangaria, Nohar
Sub-Tehsils – Dabali Rathan, Pallu, Chhani Badi
Climate of Hanumangarh:
The climate of the district is semi-dry, extremely hot during the summer and extremely cold during winter. It experiences four main Seasons –
- Summer – From April to June when maximum temperature rises to 48oC, while average temperature remains around 34oC.
- Monsoon – From July to Mid-September with average annual rainfall of 225-300 mm and temperature around 32oC.
- Post Monsoon – From Mid-September to October with average temperature of around 30oC.
- Winters – From November to March when minimum temperature falls to 2oC and average Day temperature remains around 25oC.
