The District of Sawai Madhopur is situated in Rajasthan State of Northwestern India. It is 5042.99 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by District Dausa on the North and Northwest, District Karauli on the North and Northeast, District Kota on the South, District Tonk on the West and Southwest, District Jaipur on the Northwest and State of Madhya Pradesh on the Southeast. The City of Sawai Madhopur is the headquarter of this District.
The City of Sawai Madhopur was founded in 1765 A.D. by Sawai Madho Singh-I of Jaipur and was named after him. Today it is known for Ranthambhor Fort and Ranthambhor Tiger Reserve (having Sawai Man Singh Sanctury, Keladevi Sanctury, Ranthambhor National Park and Other Reserve forests) and is commonly known as ‘Tiger City’.

This District has Sub-tropical dry Climate with four main Seasons –
- Summer – From March to June when maximum temperature rises to 47oC, while average temperature remains around 34oC, with 10% to 15% humidity. The Month of June is the hottest one.
- Monsoon – From July to Mid-September with average annual rainfall of 873 mm, average temperature around 31oC and relative humidity above 60%.
- Post Monsoon – From Mid-September to October end when average temperature remains around 28oC.
- Winters – From November to February when minimum temperature falls to around 2oC, while average Day temperature remains around 20oC. The Month of January is the coldest one.
