Location of Bhandarej:
This ancient Village is located on the Dausa-Agra National Highway 11 at a distance of 10 Km from Dausa City on the way to Sikandara Chouraha, District Dausa, Rajasthan.
History & Architecture of Important Places at Bhandarej:
During Mahabharata Period it was known as Bhadrawati. In the 11th Century A.D., it was conquered by Dulha Rai, Kachhawaha Chieftain who defeated Badgujars. It is famous for walls, sculptures, terracotta utensils, ornamental lattice work jalis etc. recovered during excavations. The important places to visit here are :
Bhandarej Baori – This Step-Well was constructed in 1787 A.D. and is a magnificent example of the splendour of the region. It was used as a bathing ghat with separate enclosures for ladies and gents. It has about 50 steps leading down to the main well which is approximately 70 feet in width. There are three floors in this Baori and numerous small windows on corridors on both the sides for ventilation purposes. It has domes on two sides having carvings of Peacocks, birds, animals etc. It had provision of separate changing rooms for ladies and gents.
Bhadrawati Palace – It is located on Jaipur-Agra Highway and its design is a fine blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture. It has courtyards, arched windows, traditionally painted verandahs, camping site with lush green fields and orchards. It has now been converted into a Heritage Hotel.
Cottage Industries – This Village is famous for Carpet making and items made of iron.
