It was established in the year 1887 as ‘Sir J.J. School of Mechanical Engineering and the Ripon Textile School’. In 1913, the Institute was recognized by the Government of Bombay as the Central Technological Institute, Bombay Province. The Institute was renamed ‘Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute’ & in 1997, the Institute was renamed ‘Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute’.
