History of the Fort:

It is said to be more than 1000 years old and along with surrounding 80 Villages, it belonged to the Champawat Clan, the premier nobles of the erstwhile Princely State of Jodhpur. The auwa Chieftains fought many battles against the Mughals, the Marathas, the French and the British. During the First War of India’s Independence in 1857, various Thakurs of Pali fought against the British under the command of the Thakur of Auwa. This Fort was seized by the British army for 6 months and numerous battles took place. The British Captain Mason died in one of the Battle and a cenotaph was constructed at the place where he had fell fighting. The Fort walls still carry the scars of that long seize and the battles.

Architecture of the Fort:

This Fort has been since renovated and its architecture is a fine blend of the Pre-Mughal traditional Hindu sculpture with Neo-Colonial and Indo-Saracenic style. It has many courtyards, terraces and beautiful Temples. The Champawat family resides in a beautiful house constructed in the traditional style, inside the Fort Complex. The rest of the Fort has been converted into a Heritage Hotel.
