History of Bhadrajun Fort:

The Bhadrajun town is said to be more than 5000 years old and was earlier known as ‘Subhadrajun’ after Devi Subhadra (the sister of Lord Krishna) and Arjun (one of five Pandava brothers during Mahabharata period). It is said that both fell in love and as Shri Krishna had no objection to this marriage, so he asked both of them to move away from his Capital Dwarika. Both the lovers reached this town in a chariot and took rest for some time. Both of them got married here. An ancient Temple known as ‘Dhumda Mata Temple’ dedicated to Goddess Subhadra is situated in a valley behind the hill.

The Bhadrajun Fort was built by the Rathore rulers of Jodhpur in the 16th Century A.D. It was occupied in 1549 A.D. by Thakur Ratan Singh, the 5th son of Maharaja Rao Maldeo (1531-1583 A.D.) of Jodhpur. In the year 1595 A.D., Maharaja Sur Singh (1594-1619 A.D.) of Jodhpur gave the estate of Bhadrajun to Mukund Das Rathore, a descendant of Thakur Ratan Singh.

Architecture of Bhadrajun Fort:

It is small but strong Fort located on the top of a small hill. It is strategically located in Village Bhadrajun which is enclosed in a horse-shoe shaped valley having only one opening in the East from where one can enter the village. The Village is surrounded by high hills about 2000 feet above sea level. Its rampart walls rise to a height of 20 to 30 feet and has a width of 10 feet all over.
