It was built in 1885 A.D. as a place of residence for Diwan Mohata Nathmal, the then Prime Minister of Jaisalmer.
Architecture of Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli:
Its design is a harmonious blend of the Rajput and the Mughal styles of art and architecture. It was built by two architect brothers named Hathi and Lalu, with one building the left part and the other building the right part. So both the parts of the Haveli have some difference in architecture, if observed very closely. Its main entrance has two life-size mighty Elephants made out of yellow sandstone which appear like guarding the Haveli. The intricately carved balconies and stone-carved screen windows of this Haveli are known for resembling intricately carved jewelry. The walls and the pillars have pictures of flora, horses, cattle, ceiling fans and cars engraved on them.
