Location of Neemrana Fort:
This Fort-Palace is located at a distance of 80 Km from Alwar City on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway in town Neemrana, Tehsil Behror, District Alwar, Rajasthan.
History of the Fort:
It was built in 1464 A.D. and was once the Capital of the descendants of King Prithviraj Chauhan who had fled Delhi in 1192 A.D. after he was defeated in the battle of Tarain by Mohammad Ghori. The rulers of this Fort did not bow to any one not even the British, hence their land was clipped and given away to Alwar, Nabha and Patiala rulers. In the year 1947, Raja Rajinder Singh abandoned the Fort due to its deteriorating condition and moved to Vijay Bagh.
Architecture of the Fort:
This Fort is located on a horseshoe-shaped cleft in the hills. The Fort-Palace was taken over in the year 1986 by the Neemrana Group of Hotels for restoration and was opened as a Heritage Hotel in 1991. It was nominated for Aga Khan Award in 2004. The nearby attractions to this Fort-Palace are the deep step wells which are located within walking distance.
