The candidate should have scored 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) in the qualifying exam and valid GATE Score. The SC/ST applicants are eligible to apply irrespective of the marks/CGPA/CPI. The Sponsored candidates are exempted from qualifying GATE requirement. The candidates who are in the final semester of their Degree are eligible to apply; Mark sheet up to the last semester should be enclosed. The Provisional Certificate in such cases along with Mark sheet of the final semester are required to be submitted before commencement of the program.
The age of the candidate should not be more than 26 years on 1st July of the year of admission. The relaxations as per GOI rules apply to SC/ ST/ OBC/ PH applicants. There is no age limit for Sponsored candidates.

The Admission Notice is published in the month of February/March every year, in the leading News-papers and DIAT Website. The candidates seeking admission to more than one Program (Specialization) need to apply separately.
For Scholarship category: The admission is based on the score in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted jointly by the IISc and all the IITs. OR the admission may be based on GATE and Interview with due weightage (80% on GATE score and 20% on Interview) with due approval of the Vice Chancellor.
For MOD (Services & DRDO) Sponsored candidates: The admission to the M.Tech. program is granted in the July Semester of each year for MoD sponsored candidates through Research & Training (R&T) and Postgraduate Training (PGT) schemes for DRDO and Tri-service officers including Coast Guard respectively. These admissions are operated jointly by DIAT and RAC/DRDO (through DHRD/DRDO).
For Sponsored candidates from Other Agencies/ Organizations: A candidate who is sponsored by his/her employer may be admitted through a separate selection committee appointed specifically for the purpose. The selection is based on the performance in a qualifying exam/ Interview or both. The sponsored candidate must be in service of the sponsoring organization. The sponsoring organization must specifically undertake to provide full salary to the candidate and to relieve him/her to pursue the program for its full duration.

Two Academic years comprising of 4 Semesters.

M.E./ M.Tech. or equivalent with 55% marks or equivalent CGPA/DGPA for Ph.D. in Engineering/Science.
B.E./ B.Tech. with 55% marks or equivalent CGPA/DGPA with 10 years of Research/ Industrial experience for Ph.D. in Engineering/ Science (this category is only for sponsored candidates).
M.Sc. or equivalent with 55% marks or equivalent CGPA/DGPA for Ph.D. in Science.
In addition to above, the candidates should have qualified in a National Level Test such as, CSIR/UGC NET, GATE, State Level Eligibility Test, accredited by UGC, Rajiv Gandhi National fellowship, NBHM etc. The Subject wise and category wise GATE/NET cut off is decided by DIAT.

The Admission Notice is published in the leading Newspapers and DIAT Website in the month of February/March for July Session and August/September for January Session. All the candidates are required to apply On-line & All applications of the Sponsored applicants must be routed through proper channel. The candidates seeking admission to more than one Program (Department) need to apply separately. The admission is based on the performance in the Entrance Exam (Written Test) conducted by the Department concerned followed by Personal Interview.

Two Academic years comprising of 4 Semesters.

Basic Graduate Degree in Food Science/ Food Technology/ Nutrition/ Sciences/ Engineering/ Agriculture/ Veterinary disciplines. The candidate must have Science background at 10+ 2 level.

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/ Technology OR a Master’s degree in appropriate Sciences with a good academic record. The candidates having Associate Membership of the : The Institution of Engineers (India) (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communications), The Aeronautical society of India, The Indian Institute of Metals, The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, The Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering are also eligible for admission to the M.S. program of their parent discipline, provided they have passed both Part A and Part B of the Membership exams with a good academic record.

Any Graduate who has studied Mathematics at H.S.C. (+2) stage and at least one paper of Mathematics during graduation (B.E./ B.Tech./ B.Sc./ B.Com.) etc.
