Passed 10+2 exam with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject. Obtained at least 75% marks in the 12th class exam, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class/ qualifying exam conducted by the respective Boards. The SC/ ST applicants are given a relaxation of 5% of marks in the minimum eligibility requirement.

The qualified candidates are required to register & fill the Application form On-line only. The Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur invites Online Applications for admission to Ph.D. Programs which are made available on the Institute’s Website (www.vnit.ac.in) in the month of October/ November for January – June academic session and in the month of April/ May for July – December academic session. The eligible candidates are short-listed and are invited for Written Test & Interview in the respective Department.

Passed I.S.C. Exam (12-year course) of the CISCE or S.S.C. Exam (12-year course) of CBSE or Any other exam recognized as equivalent to S.S.C. Exam from a recognized School/ College/ Institute and securing 60% marks in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The candidates must have passed English as a subject of study of the S.S.C. Exam Level (Core or Elective) and he/she must have passed in each subject separately OR
Passed 10+3 Diploma Exam with Mathematics as compulsory subject with at least 60% marks in aggregate.

Five Academic years comprising of 10 Semesters.

For M.Sc. Physics: The candidate should have Physics at B.Sc./Bachelor Degree Level in all the three years along with Mathematics as one of the subjects + Mathematics at 10+2 level is essential.
For M.Sc. Chemistry: The candidate should have Chemistry at B.Sc./Bachelor Degree Level in all the three years and any other combination + Mathematics at 10+2 level is essential.
For M.Sc. Mathematics: The candidate should have Mathematics at B.Sc./Bachelor Degree Level in all the three years and any other combination + Mathematics at 10+2 level is essential.
Note 1: The General or Open category (GN/OC/OP)/ Other Backward Classes (OB/OBC) applicants should have scored 60% marks or equivalent grade in the qualifying exam, the SC/ ST/ (PD/PH/PWD) applicants should have scored 55% marks or equivalent grade in the qualifying exam.
Note 2: The candidates appearing in the final year of B.Sc. Degree may also apply. Such candidates, if selected for admission, are required to produce an authentication letter from the competent authority stating that his/ her result is awaited. However, the candidates have to submit the mark sheet of the final year of B.Sc. Degree by 30th September of the academic year of admission.

The admission is based on the score in the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) conducted jointly by the IITs. The candidates with valid JAM score are required to participate in the CCMN (Centralized Counselling for M.Sc./ M.Sc. (Tech.) Admission) conducted by one of the NITs’ as authorized by the NIT Council (For details visit https://ccmn.admissions.nic.in). The seats remaining vacant, thereafter, are filled on the basis of the score in the Institute Written Test conducted by Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur in the month of May every year. The Application form for the Test is made available on the Institute’s Website (www.vnit.ac.in).
