This Museum is located near Chetak Circle in Udaipur City, District Udaipur, Rajasthan.
History of Bhartiya Lok Kala Museum:
It was founded by Padma Shri Devi Lal Samar in the year 1952 with the main objective to conduct studies on the folk art, songs and festivals of Rajasthan and of surrounding States like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra etc. and to revive the vanishing folk culture. This Museum has tried to preserve the rich history, culture, art and tradition of the region.
Attractions of Bhartiya Lok Kala Museum:
This Museum exhibits tribal ornaments, rural dresses, folk deities, dolls, masks, folk musical instruments, paintings and puppets. It has a puppet unit that trains children, teachers and other artists in the art of puppetry and has a puppet theater where regular puppet shows are held daily. On the opposite side of this theater, there are designs of henna handprints, decorated cow dung floors and small shrines made of terracotta that come from village Molela located near Nathdwara. The Museum also sends a group of 25 artists on tours, both within India and abroad, to organize Puppet shows and various folk dances. These artists have brought laurels to the Museum on the National and International level.
Visiting Hours in the Museum:
It remains open on all days except the day following the festival of Holi from 9.00 A.M. to 6.00 P.M.
