Location of Bagore Ki Haveli:
This magnificent haveli is located at Gangori Ghat on the banks of Lake Pichhola in Udaipur City, District Udaipur, Rajasthan.
History of Bagore Ki Haveli:
It was built by Amir Chand Badwa, who was the Prime Minister of Mewar during the rule of Maharana Pratap Singh II, Maharana Raj Singh II, Maharana Ari Singh II and Maharana Hamir Singh II between 1751 to 1778 A.D. After the death of Amir Chand Badwa, it came under occupation of the rulers of Udaipur. In the year 1878 A.D., Maharana Shakti Singh of Bagore occupied it and added three more stories. Since then the Haveli came to be known as ‘Bagore Ki Haveli’ and remained in occupation of the rulers of Udaipur until India’s independence in 1947. In the year 1986, it was handed over to West Zone Cultural Centre which renovated the Haveli and converted it into a Museum displaying the medieval architecture and the life style of the erstwhile royal family.
Architecture of Bagore Ki Haveli:
This huge building has 138 rooms and many balconies, terraces, courtyards and corridors. It is adorned with intricate carvings, colored glass windows, perforated screens and unique glass and mirror inlay work. The two Peacocks made with small pieces of colored glass reflect the highest level of craftsmanship achieved by the artisans of that period.
Attractions of Bagore Ki Haveli:
In the evening, the Haveli is lightened and the folk artists entertain the visitors with the performance of the traditional dance and music of Rajasthan.
The Museum located inside the Haveli exhibits the unique mural paintings and fine frescoes of Mewar on the walls of the chambers of the royal ladies, items belonging to the erstwhile rulers of Mewar like copper vessels, dice-games, hand fans, hukkas, jewellery boxes, nut crackers, pan boxes, rose water sprinklers etc. and other items of modern art.
