History of Temple Shri Somnath Mahadev Ji:

It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

The Mahmud Ghaznavi of Ghazni attacked India and wanted to destroy the Somnath Temple and Somnath Mahadev of Gujarat. So the Prince Kumarpal Solanki of Gujarat State brought the idol of Shiva Linga from the Saurashtra region of Gujarat to Pali City to save it from destruction. Hence, this Temple was built in 1152 A.D. by Kumarpal Solanki to install the Shiva Linga.

Architecture of the Temple:

The Temple has been built of sandstone of Chhitar. Its ceiling is adorned with finely chiseled circular patterns. The exquisitely carved Shikhar of the Temple is pyramid shaped and the pinnacle of the Temple is a splendid work of sculpture. The Temple has the idols of Lord Shiva in the Linga form, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha and Nandi. It is believed that all these idols were brought from the Somnath Temple of Gujarat State. The idols of God Surya, Shanidev, Santoshi Mata and Amba Mata are also installed in the small Temples built within the Temple Complex.
