Location of Shri Bangur Government Museum:

This Museum is located near Old Bus Stand in Pali City, District Pali, Rajasthan.

History of Shri Bangur Government Museum :

It is named after Mr. Bangur. Its foundation was laid on 26th April, 1982 and it was inaugurated on 19th July, 1991.

Attractions of Shri Bangur Government Museum:

The Museum is located inside a splendidly built building and has been divided into various Sections –

The Pre-historic Section exhibits stone tools like hand axe, Flake and Scrapper belonging to the Palaeolithic Period.

The Archaeological Section is the largest and the most important one. It has a rich collection of 326 sculptures. It displays 10 stone inscriptions, many archaeological pieces and the stone and metal sculptures of Hindu and Jain deities, dating back to the 6th Century A.D. and upto 17th – 18th Centuries A.D. These have been recovered from various parts of Pali and Jalore Districts. The main attractions here are –

  • A standing stone sculpture of Lord Vishnu belonging to the 6th Century A.D. It was collected from town Hemavas of District Pali and is adorned with crown, earrings and necklace.
  • A rare and richly ornamented bronze idol of Jivant Swami.
  • A seated stone sculpture of Lord Ganesha belonging to the 9th Century A.D. and recovered from town Bhinmal of District Jalore.
  • An ornamented stone sculpture of Goddess Saraswati seated on a full blown lotus and having four hands. It belongs to the 9th Century A.D. and was recovered from town Nimaj of District Pali.
  • A stone sculpture of Goddess Saraswati in standing posture and ornamented with crown, necklace and earrings. It dates back to 11th-12th Centuries A.D. and was recovered from town Nadol of District Pali.
  • An idol of Lord Chandra Prabhu (the 8th Jain Tirthankar) in Padmasana posture with curls on forehead and symbol of moon carved on the pedestal. It belongs to the medieval period and was collected from town Sayla of District Jalore.
  • A black marble sculpture of Goddess Kali in standing posture with her tongue out, having 10 heads and 54 hands holding weapons of different kinds. It belongs to the later medieval period and was collected from town Auwa of District Pali.
  • An exquisitely carved stone canopy of a Jain Image dating back to 11th-12th Centuries A.D. and it was recovered from town Bali of District Pali.
  • The exquisitely carved parts of Jain Temples made of stone. These belong to the medieval period and were collected from town Sayla of District Jalore.
  • A standing male figure made of stone, having beautiful hair style and adorned with a necklace. It belongs to the 9th Century A.D. and was recovered from town Bhinmal of Jalore District.
  • A richly-adorned standing stone sculpture of a woman called Sur-Sundri and having beautiful hair style. It belongs to the 9th Century A.D. and was recovered from town Nimaj of District Pali.
  • A Pot belonging to Kushan period recovered from town Sewari of District Pali.

The Painting Section displays 22 miniature paintings of erstwhile rulers of Jodhpur, belonging to the Jodhpur School.

The arms and armour Section exhibits weapons like Sword, Shield, Axe, Gun, Pistol and Cannons.

The Numismatic (Coins) and Epigraphic (Copper Plate) Section has a huge collection of Coins (about 409) belonging to Sultan Ala-ud-din Khilji, Sultan Feroz Tughlaq, Sultan Mubarak Shah and later Mughal rulers. The Copper plates belonging from 12th to 13th Centuries A.D. are also on display.

The Handicraft and Exhibit of Tribal life Section exhibits Wooden handicrafts. The Ornaments, Musical instruments and costume of Garasia tribe are also on display.

Visiting Hours in Shri Bangur Government Museum:

The Museum remains open on all days except selected Gazetted holidays from 10.00 A.M. to 4.30 P.M. It also arranges educational activities by inviting students.
