History of Shri Char Bhujanath Ji Temple:

This Temple is also known as ‘Meera Temple’. It is dedicated to Lord Char Bhujanath Ji. It was built in 1575 A.D. by Rao Dudho Ji upon being instructed by the deity in his dreams. It is said that the idol of the deity had emerged from the ground on this spot. According to another legend, the cow of a cobbler of Merta used to come to this place every day and the milk exuded from her udders for the deity, and hence the idol of the deity was discovered. Even today the first food offered to the deity is from cobbler caste.

Meera Bai, a Great devotee (the granddaughter of Rao Dudho Ji and great-granddaughter of Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur) and Jaimal also offered services to the deity here. This is the Temple where Meera Bai worshiped Lord Krishna before her marriage to Prince Bhoj of Chittorgarh. Hence, it is known as Meera Temple also.

The Temple is built of lime, stone, marble and cement. The black marble statue of Char Bhujanath Ji is installed in the Sanctum Sanctorum. The statues of Shri Keshab Das and Shri Girdhar Gopal Ji are installed on the right and left side. The statues of Meera Bai and Jaimal are installed on the front gate. These idols, made of marble, metal and cement, are the great examples of sculpture art. The verandah of the Temple is rested on 30 pillars. An old wooden toran still exists here.
