The town of Karauli was founded in the year 1348 A.D. and it was known as Kalyanpuri after the local deity Kalyan Ji. It used to be the Capital of Yadhuvanshi Rajputs (believed to be the descendants of Lord Krishna) in the 14th Century A.D. This Temple dedicated to Kalyan Ji was built by King Shri Gopal Singh Ji, the then ruler of Karauli in 1600 A.D.
