History & Architecture of Ossian Temples:

It is famous for the 16 Jain and Hindu Temples said to be belonging to the 8th and 11th Centuries A.D. The sculptural beauty of these Temples rival that of any of the famous Temples of the country, be it the Sun Temple of Konark, or the Hoysala Temples of Karnataka.

  • The Temple dedicated to Lord Mahavir, the 24 Jain Tirthankar, is the largest one.
  • The Sun Temple has splendid images of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Durga and Lord Sun.
  • The Sachiya Temple also known as Temple Shri Ossiya Mata Ji was built between 10th and 11th Centuries A.D. by the Parmar rulers. It is dedicated to Goddess Durga who is also called Sachchi Dhaya (the real Nourisher Mother). The Temple has been built in Nagar style of architecture. The Sanctum Sanctorum and Prayer Portico are artistically built, adorned with beautiful lattice work and an elaborate ceiling. The lower part of the walls bear special ornamentation. A huge entrance hall and nine bracketed entrances further beautify the temple. Its pinnacle is clustered by two rows of turrets. The idol of Goddess Durga is eight armed, seated on lion and killing the Demon Mahishasur. The idols of Shri Satya Narayan and Lord Vishnu are also installed here.
