Location of Balsamand Lake Palace:
This splendid Palace is located at a distance of 5 Km North of Jodhpur City on Mandore Road on a hillock facing the artificially created still and clear Balsamand Lake in District Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
History of Balsamand Lake Palace:
It was built in the 19th Century A.D. by Maharaja Sur Singh as a Summer pavillion, while the Lake was created much earlier in the 13th Century A.D. as a reservoir to supply drinking water to the Mandore City.
Architecture of Balsamand Lake Palace:
The Palace is built in red sandstone and its design is based on the typical Rajput style of architecture. It is very finely carved with latticed windows that allow the soft, cool breeze to blow into the interiors of the palace. There are domed structures at the embankments of the lake, in front of the palace, that offer magnificent views of the lake encircled by hills.
It has lush green lawns, terraced gardens, a number of pools covered with lilies and a number of fruit bearing trees. An artificial cascading waterfall brings water down from the reservoir to the gardens. The peacocks, blue bulls, jackals and hundreds of flying foxes (fruit bats) are the frequent visitors.
Visiting Hours in the Palace:
It has now been converted into a Heritage Hotel being managed by the WelcomHeritage chain of heritage hotels.
