History of Monastery of Saint Pipa Ji:
Saint Pipa Ji was born in 1426 A.D. in a Chauhan Rajput family. He belonged to the royal family and became the King of the Gagron Fort. He enjoyed all the pleasures and comforts of a royal life and married a dozen beautiful women who lived with him in his Palace as his queens. Inspite of all the luxuries, he used to meditate Goddess Durga and spent his time in the company of the holy persons. He was told that special efforts are needed to be made to have a glimpse of God. So he decided to go to Kashi to seek spiritual guidance from Swami Ramanand, a Great Sage. He set out for Kashi in the company of his queens and attendants, but Ramanand Ji refused to meet him saying that those desirous of seeking the company of the saints must first discard their ego of worldly position and power.
Then Pipa Ji sent back his queens and attendants and presented himself before the saint with all humility. Thus, he was able to seek the discipleship of Ramanand. He dedicated himself to the worship of God. Finally, he renounced the crown and set out on pilgrimage in the company of his youngest wife, Sita. Slowly, he became totally indifferent to the worldly position and self. It is said that one early morning as he was going for a bath in the river he saw on the way an urn full of gold coins. The following day, Pipa took another route to reach the river saying maya (wealth) has occupied that path. Thus, he never allowed maya to dominate over his heart and also he never lost humility of heart.
There is only one hymn of Pipa Ji included in the Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This hymn has made the Saint immortal. In this hymn Pipa Ji has advised man to realize the ultimate Reality. For this purpose one need not to go to forests. God resides in the human heart. Therefore, the man must peep into his innerself and discover God from within.
