Location of Pataleshwar Temple:

This ancient Temple is situated at a distance of 125 Km from Jalore City on the way to Raniwara and Sanchore towns in Village Sevada, District Jalore, Rajasthan.

History of Pataleshwar Temple:

This Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

It was built in the 8th Century A.D. It is said that about 1200 to 1300 years ago there was a grazing ground outside the Village. One day at a certain place, milk of one cow drained out automatically. The master of the cow took it casually. But when it continued for 3-4 days, he told the instance to his family members and senior members of Village. The villagers decided to dig the place and they founded one Shiva lingam out of it. The people in large numbers came to pay homage to Lord Shiva and built a huge Temple.

The Temple was destroyed many times by Sultan Mohammad Gazni, Sultan Mohammad Ghori, Sultan Alaudin Khilji and Nawab of Palanpur when they went to raid Somnath Temple of Gujarat. It was repaired so many times and bears an inscription of 13th Century A.D. mentioning the repair work.

Architecture of Pataleshwar Temple:

The Temple complex also has many Temples dedicated to various Gods and Goddesses. At present the roof top of the Temple is absent and the remains of old artistic pillars, idols, small Temples could be seen.
