History of Ramdevra Temple:

This Temple is dedicated to Baba Ramdev Ji, believed to be an incarnation of Lord Krishna.

The legend goes that King Ajmal Ji, the ruler of Pokhran had no sons, so he went to Kashi and offered his prayers to Lord Shiva in his desire to have a son. He was instructed in his dreams by Lord Krishna on the 7th day to go to Dwarka where his wish would be fulfilled.

He went to Dwarka and started conversing with the idol, but the idol did not respond. Then a priest advised him to jump into the sea where the golden Dwarka (the Capital of Lord Krishna during Mahabharata Period) is located. Then he jumped into the sea and met Lord Krishna who granted him his wish for a son and gave him a flower, but the King insisted he wanted a son like the Lord himself in which case Krishna had no alternative, but to take birth himself. So Lord Krishna gave him another flower and promised that he will take birth at the appropriate time as his younger son.

Thereafter, the King closed his eyes and paid homage to Lord Krishna and when he opened his eyes he found himself on the beach. After 10 months, in 1405 A.D., a son was born to Queen Minaldevi who was named Viramdev Ji. Soon Lord Krishna arrived in the form of a baby boy and laid down next to Viramdev in the cradle and was named Baba Ramdev Ji. Baba Ramdev Ji was known to possess extraordinary divine powers. It is said that once five Pirs (holy men) from Mecca came to test his powers and after being convinced paid homage to Baba Ji. Since then the Muslims named him Ramshahpir or Ramapir or Hinduwapir.

In the year 1459 A.D, Baba Ramdev Ji took the Samadhi (the conscious exit from the mortal body). After going into the Samadhi, the mortal body of Baba Ji disappeared and the Samadhi got filled up with earth. From that day the Samadhi is worshipped. This Temple was constructed in 1931 A.D. by Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner around the Samadhi of Baba Ramdev who had buried himself alive at this place.

Architecture of Ramdevra Temple:

It has been built of Makrana marble and lime mortar and has a number of projections and Jharokhas. A water tank is located near the Temple which is believed to cure skin diseases. The Temple also has Samadhis of King Ajmalji and Queen Mata Minaldevi Ji, of Raja Ranjitsinhji (the grandfather of Baba Ramdev Ji), of Viramdev Ji (the elder brother of Baba Ramdev Ji) and of the two sons of Baba Ramdev Ji. A huge fair is organized here from Bhadon Sudi 2 (Beej) to 11 (Ekadashi) in the months of August to September.
