It was established in the year 1780 A.D. by Maharawal Mool Raj II as a cool Summer retreat.

It looks like an oasis in the golden desert sands. It has elegantly carved stone Pavilions, an attractive Palace, splendidly built Step-well, a breathtaking lush green Mehtab Bagh (the moonlit garden) of fragrant white flowers and beautiful fountains. The walls of the palace are adorned with fine miniature paintings and attractive murals depicting the exuberant royal life of the erstwhile rulers of Jaisalmer. Another attraction of this place is a Shiva Temple, which is said to be constructed out of just two large blocks of sandstone.
Now, a Royal Jodhpur Camp has been established here with 18 luxurious and spacious royal Jodhpur tents. These tents are handmade by traditional artisans which recreate the early 20th Century camps of the Jodhpur Maharajas, but with 21st Century amenities. The camp arranges desert dunes trips, Camel safaris, local sightseeing and music and dance programmes by fine local artists.
