Location of Government Archaeological Museum:
This Museum is also known as Rajmata Devendra Kunwar State Museum and Cultural Centre and is located in Dungarpur City, District Dungarpur, Rajasthan.
History of Government Archaeological Museum:
It was established in the year 1988.
Attractions of the Museum:
It houses a huge Gallery with a remarkable collection from 6th-7th century, 11th-12th century and 16th-18th century excavations of the Vagad region which spreads over the present day Dungarpur, Banswara and Tehsil Kherwara of District Udaipur.
The most Important and the Wonderful Sculptures displayed in the museum are –
- Mahishasur Mardini belonging to the 16th-17th century
- Vinadhar Shiva in black stone dating back to the 6th-7th century
- Kumari, a female figure belonging to the 6th-7th century, recovered from Aamjhara
- A beautiful idol of Gajlaxmi belonging to the 17th-18th century
- The Navgraha in a single stone piece dating back to the 11th-12th century
The royal family of Dungarpur has gifted many of their personal collections and antiquities to the Museum. It also has a panel of portraits of the erstwhile Maharajas of Dungarpur State and photographs of Palaces, Temples and monuments from the lots of phases of the land’s history.
The entire collection of the museum includes 197 images of Gods and Goddesses, 23 inscriptions, Metal images, Coins and Objects related with tribal culture of the region.
Visiting Hours in the Museum:
It remains open on all days except Fridays and Gazetted holidays.
