This Gravity Masonry Dam is located on river Chambal near town Rawatbhata, District Chittorgarh, Rajasthan.
History of the Dam:
It has been named after the legendary Rajput King and warrior Maharana Pratap. Its construction was started in the year 1953 and it along with the power plant of the same name were dedicated to the Nation in 1970 by Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India.
Architecture & Attractions of the Dam:
It rises to a height of 177 feet and has a total length of 3750 feet. The Power Plant has 4 units of 43 MW each. It has also resulted into the creation of a wetland named Rana Pratap Sagar Reservoir which attracts many Species of resident and migratory birds.
