Location of the Temple:

This ancient Temple is situated in the Southern part of Chittorgarh Fort near Suraj Kund in Chittorgarh City, District Chittorgarh, Rajasthan.

History of the Temple:

This Temple was originally built in the 8th Century A.D. by Bappa Rawal as the Sun Temple. It was destroyed during the first attack on the Fort by the forces of Sultan Ala-ud-din Khilji in 1303 A.D. It was re-built in the 14th Century A.D. as Kalika Mata Temple when the Fort was captured by Rana Hammir Singh. It is dedicated to Goddess Kalika, the Goddess of power and valour.

Architecture of the Temple:

Its design is based on the Pratihara style of architecture. It is built on a raised platform, has intricately carved pillars, ceiling and gates and is ornamented with beautiful sculptures. It has the idols of Goddess Kalika, Shiva Lingam and Lord Ganesha.
