History & Architecture of Baroli Temples:

It is famous for the remains of the ancient Temples built between 7th and 9th Centuries A.D. by the Hun rulers. These are known for their architectural grandeur. These are ornamented with exquisite stonework of magnificent carvings on pillars, ceilings and roofs and are the beautiful examples of the ancient Indian craftsmanship. These Temples escaped destruction by the Afghan invaders and hence still look magnificent.

The Ghateshwara Temple is the main Temple. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and contains detailed carvings. Its ceiling, porch and the outside roof are ornamented with images of Lord Shiva and the celestial nymphs in attendance. The door of the Mandap is adorned with an image of dancing Lord Shiva or Nataraja.

The Mahishasurmardini Temple is situated near the Ghateshwara Temple. It is dedicated to Goddess Durga who was named Mahishasurmardini after she killed the demon named Mahishasura. It is crowned with a beautifully carved and curved pagoda bearing intricately etched motifs which almost look like a fine transparent screen. Another Shiva Temple is situated in a tiny pond close to this Temple.

The beauty of this town is further enhanced by numerous waterfalls.
