Location of Lallgarh Palace Library and Museum:

This imposing and spectacular Palace built of red sand stone is located on Bikaner-Sri Ganganagar Road in Bikaner City, District Bikaner, Rajasthan.

History of Lallgarh Palace Library and Museum:

It was built in 1902 A.D. by General Narendra Maharaja Sir Rao Ganga Singh (the ruler of Bikaner between 1887-1943 A.D.) in the memory of his father Lall Singh. It was designed by Col. Sir Swinton Jacob. It is an Unmatched Jewel in the Thar Desert and has been visited by a number of dignitaries from all over the World.

Architecture of Lallgarh Palace Library and Museum:

It is a fine blend of Rajput, Muslim and European styles of architecture. The Rajput exterior of Lallgarh Palace contrasts dramatically with the occidental decor within. It has beautiful stone crafted pillars, spacious lounges, Italian colonnades, regal halls, motifs of Lotus in full bloom and majestically carved fire places. Its lush green sprawling lawns are adorned with marble pavilions, carved water fountains and beautiful bougainvilleas and are visited by a number of peacocks. The open corridors run the length of the halls and rooms and are lined with a rare collection of old prints and vintage copies of etchings. The covered corridors that link rooms are mounted with hunting Trophies and royal portraits.

Now this Palace has been divided into three parts :

The Sadul Museum and Library – This part of the Palace houses a big Library which is the fourth largest in the World. It has a huge collection of ancient Sanskrit manuscripts on parchments. The Museum is located on the first floor of the Palace. It displays historic items like elegantly designed miniature paintings, black and white pictures depicting the lives and times of Maharaja Ganga Singh, Maharaja Sadul Singh and Maharaja Karni Singh.

A Heritage Hotel – One part of the Palace has been converted into a heritage Hotel.

The Third part is still occupied by the descendants of the royal family.
