Location of Mandalgarh Fort:
The town of Mandalgarh is located at a distance of 54 Km Southeast of Bhilwara City, District Bhilwara, Rajasthan.
History of Mandalgarh Fort:
This historically important town has witnessed many fierce battles during the medieval times. It was twice captured by Mahmud Khilji of Malwa in the middle of the 15th Century A.D. Thereafter, it came under the control of the Ranas of Mewar and the Mughal Emperors. In the year 1650 A.D., the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan granted it in Jagir to Raja Roop Singh of kishangarh, who partially built a palace here. In the year 1660 A.D., Rana Raj Singh recaptured it. The Mughals captured the palace in 1680 A.D. and in 1700 A.D. granted it to Jhujar Singh, the Chief of Pisangan (now in District Ajmer). Rana Amar Singh recaptured it in 1706 A.D. and then it remained in the uninterruped possession of his successors.
Architecture of the Fort:
The Mandalgarh Fort is located in the Northwestern part of the town at a height of 1850 feet above sea level. It is about half a mile in circumference, with a low rampart wall and bastions which encircle the crest of the hill on which it stands. It is said to have been built by a chief of the Balnote Clan of Rajputs (a branch of Solankis). Another opinion is that it was built by Rana Kumbha of Mewar. It houses an old Jaleshwar Temple dating back to 1562 A.D. and another Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
