History of Temple Shri Bhartrihari Dhaam:
This Temple is dedicated to King Bhartrihari, a Great Sage. It is said to have been built hundreds of years before Christ, by the disciples and the devotees of King Bhartrihari. Maharaja Bhartrihari was the King of Ujjain and was infatuated with his beautiful wife named Pingle. However, his wife was disloyal to him. When the King came to know about it, he immediately renounced his kingdom and become a Nath, a disciple of Guru Gorakhnath. He practiced his asceticism at this place located in the forest amidst high Aravali Hills around and a small rivulet of clean water nearby.
Architecture of the Temple:
A lamp which has been burning here for Centuries is cautiously guarded. There is a Dhuni (a fire place maintained by Nath Sadhus) which also keeps burning in every Season and at every time. The devotees worship the Samadhi (the entombment) of Bhartrihari and it is believed that he is still alive and he keeps visiting this place in any form, but no one can recognize him. The devotees have strong faith in Bhartrihari and it is said that he cures them of snake poison and also fulfils all their wishes, when remembered with pure heart. The Temple has many Dharmshalas (Inns) built for the pilgrims.
Visiting Hours in the Temple:
A huge fair is organised here in the month of Bhadrapada (August/September) during which lakhs of devotees visit here to pay homage to the great Sage Bhartrihari. All the Festivals related to Lord Shiva are celebrated here.
