It was built in the 17th Century A.D. and it was in this Fort that Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan and the rightful heir to the Mughal throne is said to have been held captive by his younger brother, Aurangzeb. After the disintegration of the Mughal Empire, it finally came under the control of the Maharaja of Alwar State, who made it his Winter Palace.
