This Fort is located at a distance of 50 Km from Alwar City at the edge of the Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary in District Alwar, Rajasthan.
History of Bhangarh Fort:
The City and the Fort of Bhangarh were founded in 1573 A.D. by Madho Singh, the younger brother of the famous Raja Man Singh of Amer. This was a town of about 10,000 dwellings which was suddenly abandoned overnight in the 17th Century A.D. and hence fell into ruins. The ruins of Bhangarh present a picture of the ancient kingdom that once flourished here. The town planning, castle hierarchy, market system and the charming beauty of several Temples are worth seeing.
Architecture of Bhangarh Fort:
The place has splendid ruins of Temples, walls and pavilions. An ancient site preserved by Archaeological Survey of India on the hills of Bhangarh has ruins of arches and colonnades of a Complex. A fascinating restored medieval bazaar can also be seen here. A finely carved Someshwar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva has a water tank which is still used by the Villagers. The Temple of Gopinath has carved pillars and a corbelled cupola. Another monument named ‘Randiyon Ka Mahal’ (palace of prostitutes) built for female courtesans is also located here.
Visiting Hours in the Fort:
Now a days, this Fort is considered to be haunted. So the Archaeological Survey of India has banned the entry of the visitors before sunrise and after sunset. The Shepherds are not allowed entry into the area. The Kewda or Pandanus trees found in Bhangarh area belong to the Archaeological Survey of India. It is forbidden to subject this tree to any kind of harm.
