Location of Alwar Fort or Bala Qila:
This Fort is located on the top of a hill, which is 1960 feet above sea level and 1000 feet above the City of Alwar in District Alwar, Rajasthan.
History of Alwar Fort:
It was built in 1550 A.D. by Hasan Khan Mewati. It was occupied at different times by the Mughals, the Marathas, the Jats and finally by the Kachhwaha Rajputs.
Architecture of Alwar Fort:
It is 5 Km in length from North to South and has a width of 1.5 Km from East to West. Its rampart walls have 52 openings for small firearms and 8 huge bastions for placing big guns. It encloses 15 large and 51 small towers and the remains of Jal Mahal, Nikumbh Mahal, Salim Sagar, Suraj Kund and about 15 temples. It has six entrance gates which have been named as Chand Pol, Suraj Pol (named after Raja Suraj Mal of Bharatpur), Jai Pol, Kishan Pol, Andheri Gate and Laxman Pol. It is said that in 1770 A.D. Pratap Singh, a Kachhwaha Rajput and the founder of the Alwar State used Laxman Pol for entering the Fort for the first time.
It provides a picturesque view of the City from the top. The permission of the Superintendent of Police of Alwar is required to visit it.
