It is situated at a distance of 10 Km Northwest of Ajmer City at the entrance of the sacred town Pushkar in District Ajmer, Rajasthan. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.

History of Shri Rama Vaikuntha Temple:

This Temple was built by Seth Magniram Bangar of Didwana, Marwar and is spread over an area of 20 bighas of land. Its construction started in the year 1920 A.D. and it got completed in the year 1925 A.D. It belongs to Jayakhyam Sect. (it is the original creed and its ritual is wholly in Sanskrit) of Shri Vaishnava Sampradaya.

Architecture of Shri Rama Vaikuntha Temple:

The rules of architecture given in Jayakhyam Samhita have been followed regarding the size and the shape of the idols and also regarding the construction of the spire of Gopuram (an ornate monumental tower) over the inner Temple. The Gopuram over the inner Temple was built by the South Indian masons brought for the purpose. The spire is built of stone and contains signs of 361 Gods or Devtas. In front of the inner temple or Nijmandir, stands the golden Garud Dhwaja Pole, representing the garuda, the mount of Lord Vishnu. The outer Gopuram, built over the main entrance of the temple is of brick and mortar. This was also built and decorated with elaborate carvings by the South Indian masons. At the four corners of the temple, on the walls are placed four images of Garuda, to show that it is a Vaishnava Temple.

This Temple contains one principal temple called the Vaikuntha Venktesh, and eight other Temples :

  • The Lakshmiji Temple dedicated to the first wife of Lord
  • The Godambaji Temple dedicated to the second wife of Lord
  • Raghunath Ji Temple
  • Temple of Lord Srirangnath
  • Temple of Sudarshan Bhagwan, illustrating the Sudarshana Chakra of Lord Vishnu
  • Ramanuj Temple
  • Vedantdeshik Temple dedicated to the man who strengthened the Ramanuja cult four hundred years after it was founded.
  • Temple of Lakshminarayan

The principal Temple contains two idols – One of the Lord Vishnu which was made in the Temple by the Dravid architects and another of Goddess Lakshmi Narsingha which was brought from the Deccan by men on foot. In this Temple the worship is performed 6 times, while in the other eight Temples, it is performed for 5 times. There is a common kitchen to prepare food for all the nine Temples, which after presentation to the idols, is distributed among the devotees. Ten Festivals are organised every month in this Temple. The three special festivals organised here are – Hindolas in the month of Sravan (the Monsoon month) which lasts for 15 days, Brahmseva in the month of Chaitra (March/April) which lasts for 10 days and the Kartik Fair in October/November which lasts for 6 days.

The Temple dedicated to Lakshminarayan is situated outside the main Temple, but within Shri Rama Vaikuntha Temple Complex. The Temple Complex also contains several residential quarters, a school and a garden.
