Location of Phoolmahal Palace:
This Palace is located at a distance of 27 Km from Ajmer City on the banks of the ‘Gundalao Lake’ in town Kishangarh, District Ajmer, Rajasthan.
History & Architecture of Phoolmahal Palace:
This palace has the massive Kishangarh Fort at its backdrop. Originally the place where this Palace is located, a garden known as ‘Payandaz Bagh’ used to exist in the 17th Century A.D. and that was the pleasure garden of the Maharajas of Kishangarh. In 1870 A.D., Maharaja Prithi Singh, the 15th ruler of Kishangarh built Phoolmahal as his Monsoon Palace. It used to be the private residence of the royal family of Kishangarh.
In 1885 A.D., a number of pavilions were added by Maharaja Shardul Singh, the son and successor of Maharaja Prithi Singh. Maharaja Madan Singh, the 17th ruler of Kishangarh made more additions. The Madan Burj, a rounded dome with filigree work pillars was constructed in 1907 A.D. for Viceroy’s visit. The Kamal Burj which is a part of this palace rises out of the Lake and is similar in height to that of the Kishangarh Fort. All the structures of the Palace including the pavilions in the garden and the guest rooms are decorated with painted frescoes and lotus motifs.
The Monsoon fed Centuries old Gundalao lake is visited by a number of birds like Herons, Peacocks, Flamingos, Pelicans, Wild Duck and Sarus Crane. It is the ideal place for bird-watchers.
