Location of Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary:

This Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 5 Km West of Udaipur City, surrounding the Sajjangarh Palace perched atop the Bansdara Hill of Aravalli ranges in District Udaipur, Rajasthan.

History of Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary:

This thickly-wooded area used to be the royal shooting preserve of the erstwhile rulers of Mewar. It was established as a Wildlife Sanctuary in the year 1987 with the objective of preserving a variety of wild animals.

Attractions of Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary:

This Wildlife Sanctuary covers a total area of 5.19 Sq. Km. It is a well protected Sanctuary surrounded by a concrete wall. Now, it is home to Blue Bull, Chital, Hare, Hyenas, Jackals, Panthers, Sambhar, Tigers, Wild boars and a large number of reptiles and more than 100 species of birds.

On the Western part of the Bansdara Hills, a perennial source of water known as ‘Jhar Water Hole’ is located which is surrounded by a number of ancient Mahua tress. A Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated nearby. The beauty of this area is further enhanced by springs of water flowing through the area during monsoons.

A network of forest roads has been provided to reach different parts of the Sanctuary. The tourists can enjoy the beauty of the Aravalli Hills along with the rich flora and fauna present in the area by trekking from the Gorilla viewpoint to Badi Lake through this Sanctuary.
