Location of The Shah Jahani Mosque:

This splendid Mosque of striking quality and immense beauty is situated inside the Dargah Sharif of Hazrat Khwajah Moinuddin Hasan Chishti in its inner courtyard towards the East in Ajmer City, District Ajmer, Rajasthan.

History of The Shah Jahani Mosque:

This Mosque was got built in 1637-1638 A.D. by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan (1627-1658 A.D.) to fulfill a vow he had made during his Mewar campaign and also in the honour of the Great Saint, Hazrat Khwajah Moinuddin Hasan Chishti.

Architecture of The Shah Jahani Mosque:

It is 148 feet in length and 25 feet in width and has an enclosure, paved with polished marble, measuring 150 feet by 53 feet in front of it. This enclosure is surrounded on the South, North and East by an impressive balustrade having five entrances, one in the South, one in the North and the remaining three in the East, each reached by a flight of stairs.

The Mosque proper is on a plinth reachable by a flight of stairs. Under the roof of the Mosque, there is an exterior row of 11 arched entrances running parallel to an interior row of 11 arched entrances, all the twenty-two being identical to one another. The back-wall has five niches in which the fundamental creeds of Islam are inscribed in golden letters. There is an inscription of 33 Verses of high quality in Persian verse over the frieze of the facade. The style of writing is Naksh of a very high order.
